SINGAPORE, 28 July 2014 – Pacnet today announced its Singapore CloudSpace II (SGCS2) has been awarded the GoldPLUS rating under the Green Mark for Data Centres scheme by Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). The BCA-IDA Green Mark for Data Centres scheme is a dedicated green building rating system that is designed to encourage the adoption of energy efficient design, operation and management within data centers.

In achieving its Green Mark GoldPLUS accolade, Pacnet was able to demonstrate the data center’s robust performance in overall energy efficiency, water efficiency, sustainable construction and management, and indoor environmental quality. The eight-story, 155,000-square foot standalone facility, strategically located in Paya Lebar, boasts fully redundant power and cooling systems, advanced fire detection and suppression systems, as well as a latest-generation security access system.

“Our overall data center sustainability efforts at Pacnet not only focus on energy efficiency, but also incorporate facets such as water savings and cooling tower design,” said Giles Proctor, Vice President of Data Center Services at Pacnet. “This BCA-IDA Green Mark GoldPLUS accolade once again demonstrates our leadership in designing innovative data centers. Our Hong Kong CloudSpace II data center, HKCS2, was also awarded the LEED Gold certification.”

Officially launched in January this year, SGCS2 has incorporated several key environmentally friendly elements during its construction. These included making use of the existing Singapore Warehouse Building with minimum modification, boosting robust thermal performance by improvements made to the building façade, and deploying efficient chiller plant, computer room air handler unit and buffer tank technology. In addition, effective power management has been realized through transformer efficiency, which is able to achieve above 98 percent, while the overall electrical system efficiency can achieve above 93 percent. The PUE achieved at 100 percent load is 1.43, which is equivalent to an energy saving of 28.5 percent.

In addition, Pacnet’s SGCS2 is the first data center in Singapore to be recognized with Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification of Design Documents, which is an international benchmarking classification systems for data centers. The facility not only provides customers with colocation and connectivity services but also offers them access to Pacnet’s managed services, including the award-winning software-defined networking (SDN) architecture Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN).

The BCA-IDA Green Mark for Data Centres scheme assesses data centers based on five key criteria – energy efficiency, water efficiency, sustainable construction and management, indoor environment quality as well as other green features, with greater emphasis placed on the energy performance as data centers typically consumes large amounts of energy. The scheme is jointly developed by Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and IDA with supporting partners from Energy Research Institute @ Nanyang Technological University (ERI@N) and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs (LBNL) in the US.
