The April 6, 2016 Event Will Examine Europe’s Changing Data Protection Landscape, and EU-US Safe Harbor Principles

HII-New LogoDUBLIN, IRELAND – March 22, 2016 Host in Ireland, a strategic global initiative created to increase awareness of the benefits of hosting digital assets in Ireland, today announces a marquee event taking place at the Embassy of Ireland in Washington D.C., “Ireland, Data’s Gateway to Europe” on April 6, 2016 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. The event will feature a special presentation by Helen Dixon, Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner, along with informative presentations by industry leaders on the changing data protection landscape in Europe as well as EU-US Safe Harbor framework and EU-US Privacy Shield updates.

In addition to Commissioner Dixon, featured speakers include, Emmanuel Dowdall, Executive VP/Director North America at IDA Ireland, Buddy Rizer, Executive Director of Loudoun County’s Department of Economic Development, as well as Garry Connolly, President and Founder of Host in Ireland, who will present the “5 Ps” of digital asset hosting – Policies, Pedigree, People, Power and Pipes.

With the recent invalidation of the Safe Harbor framework, the European Commission and the United States have agreed upon a new framework for transatlantic data flows: the EU-US Privacy Shield. Because the EU-US Privacy Shield is still undergoing analysis by the European Commission’s Article 29 Working Party, complaints related to the invalidated Safe Harbor decision are being dealt with on a case-by-case basis and transfer mechanisms, such as Standard Contractual Clauses and Binding Corporate Rules, may be used to transfer data to the U.S. until the Article 29 Working Party completes its assessment. For companies, these changes will require mechanisms to keep better track of data flows from the respect of both employee and corporate customer data. Host in Ireland is already one step ahead of the curve in helping companies navigate the rapidly shifting terrain of data transfer compliance, aided by its longtime commitment to the 5 Ps of digital asset hosting. These key elements provide a structured foundation for hosting that supports Ireland’s position as a superior hosting location and attracts companies of all sizes and markets to the country.

“With the complexity and uncertainty surrounding EU-US data protection, it’s paramount that companies understand the nuances of compliance in order to remain competitive, and our panel represents some of the leading authorities in the field to address the current state of data protection in Europe,” states Garry Connolly, President and Founder of Host in Ireland. “Furthermore, through its steadfast integration of the 5 Ps, Ireland’s integrity in safely, securely, and effectively meeting hosting needs remains unparalleled. The upcoming event in Washington will offer attendees the opportunity to hear firsthand the crucial role Ireland’s commitment to these five key elements plays in ensuring the fidelity of digital assets in such a changeable time for EU-US data protection.”

About Host in Ireland
Host in Ireland is an industry-led marketing initiative that provides timely and accurate information on Ireland’s digital asset hosting ecosystem at all times, including demonstrating why Ireland is more cost-effective, efficient, reliable, secure and accessible than most other regions across the EU. There’s a reason companies like Microsoft, Zendesk, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Adobe and beyond have sought to host their solutions in as well as to / from Ireland. Many of these reasons are immediately realized due to access to affordable power, redundant network and bandwidth capacity along with a variety of data center providers that offer an array of services sustained by the 5 Ps: Policy, People, Pedigree, Pipes, and Power. On top of that is a very attractive business management structure, implemented by Ireland, which is keenly interested to bring new businesses into the market. Ireland supports this initiative through attractive fiscal structures, access to a skilled workforce and full support of the U.S. Safe Harbor and Patriot Acts – ensuring data asset compliance for companies large and small.
