Bluebird Network Announces Expansion of Its Underground Data Center

Bluebird Network, a Midwest telecommunications company, has begun an expansion of its Bluebird Underground Data Center, located in a Springfield Missouri underground mine. The expansion design is underway and the project will go to bid in late May.

This expansion represents an additional 4,700 square-feet of white space, bringing the total to 22,300 square-feet. The entire data center currently occupies 80,000 square-feet of mine space, with the remaining space being dedicated to critical mechanical and electrical support systems. Share

Enabling Small Cell Technology in Rural America
By Michael Morey, President & CEO, Bluebird Network

Major metropolitan areas across the country are turning to cutting-edge technologies and solutions for advanced connectivity to satisfy the demands of increased data traffic and bandwidth-intensive content. Small cells have afforded these Tier I markets the ability to increase network capacity and available frequencies throughout a given area, and with 5G technology waiting in the wings, companies and end-users located in these cities find themselves in an optimal position to enjoy continuous, high-quality connectivity services. However, take a step outside of these major metro areas and you’ll see an entirely different picture. Share

An Inside Look at What Runs Our Network

Bluebird Network utilizes state-of-the-art IP/MPLS network infrastructure to deliver data traffic for our customers. With the sheer number of customers and services on our network, security and data traffic separation is paramount. Each customer’s private network service (EPL, EVPL, ELAN, VPRN) exists in a Virtual Private Network (VPN) logical construct. This means that every service on the IP/MPLS network is virtually private, and customer traffic cannot “leak” between VPNs. Different customers on the IP/MPLS network can overlap VLANs and IPs because traffic does not cross VPN boundaries; “Customer A” and “Customer B” can never receive each other’s data traffic. This virtual isolation ensures that each customer’s traffic is kept private and secure, and that no other customer can intercept or accidently receive another customers data, resulting in Bluebird providing an assurance that data will remain private and secure. What is FirstNet?
Simply put FirstNet is the first nationwide, high-speed broadband network dedicated to public safety – our First Responders Network. This initiative grew out of the public safety community’s commitment to, and advocacy for, a dedicated network to address the communication challenges faced during 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. Consider the importance communication has in public safety. When an emergency arises, instincts kick in and you depend on the ability to contact the folks you need and depend on; that’s where the FirstNet infrastructure comes in.

President Trump unveils infrastructure plan
President Trump has consistently emphasized that the nation’s infrastructure needs to be rebuilt and modernized; the need for broadband deployment in rural areas is included in this rebuild plan. On February 12, 2018, President Trump unveiled his lnfrastructure Initiative, outlining the framework for how he intends to fund this $1.5 trillion plan, and how that money would be divided. The reforms as set forth in President Trump’s plan are intended to strengthen the economy and make America more competitive. The importance of broadband infrastructure development in rural America is paramount to helping the president’s vision become a success. Share

The State of 5G: When It's Coming, How Fast It Will Be & the Sci-Fi Future It Will Enable
Although 5G may seem like just another generational upgrade for mobile networks, touting more speed and less latency than previous iterations, the years-long migration will require an expansion of cellular networks worldwide to include millions of new antennas that will become the backbone of IoT (Internet of Things) and its billions of sensor-laden devices, from smart dust to smart cars.
