- DE-CIX will gather 13 major companies from the networking and digitalization industry at its fourth annual congress.
Madrid, November 4, 2020 – DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange operator, has just announced that the fourth edition of their annual summit will take place next Thursday, November 12. DE-CIX Interconnection Summit Madrid 2020 will be broadcasted online for the first time in virtual reality. Following this year’s motto “a digital world, for everything, for everyone” the meeting will bring together professionals and experts from Interxion, Telxius or FREE NOW, among other companies, to discuss how the digitalization of companies’ business models is having an impact on interconnection services, and the role of Madrid and Southern Europe on the global interconnection map.
Coronavirus has strongly influenced interconnection services and increased the demand for apps and platforms such as videoconferencing, streaming video platforms, mobility services or online gaming. For this reason this summit’s edition will analyze the changes that the digital ecosystem is facing and how the industry has worked to adapt its services to offer a solid and reliable infrastructure.

First Virtual Reality Summit
Due to the exceptional situation we are experiencing due to coronavirus, this edition of the DE-CIX Summit in Madrid will not be held in person, but in a virtual reality setting. The company has designed a virtual arena where the speakers will make their interventions on a 3D digital stage.
The event will feature 14 industry experts who will address the evolution of Madrid and the South of Europe as a strategic location for Internet and communications. From the sponsoring companies, DE-CIX will introduce speakers such as Robert Assink, Managing Director of Interxion; Markel Gruber, Managing Director of Global Switch and Zigor Gaubeca, Network Architect at Aire Networks. Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX International and Theresa Bobis, Regional Director for Southern Europe, will be the masters of ceremonies at the Summit.

Since its opening in 2016, DE-CIX Madrid has become one of the world’s fastest growing Internet exchange point with over 200 networks already connected. In addition, in this past year it has set traffic peaks records, reaching 550 Gbps.
