FiberLight, LLC is Connecting Rural Texas Communities Through its Texas Expansion Activities

FiberLight LogoATLANTA, GA, USA – June 10, 2014 – FiberLight, LLC’s Texas Expansion efforts continue to bring much-needed connectivity to the state of Texas.  In the first five months of 2014, FiberLight has made significant progress on two major fronts, including supporting cell phone towers with wireless backhaul and connecting smaller, more remote regions of the state to Texas’ larger metro markets over fiber optic backbone infrastructure.  This brings critical, high-speed data transport services to underserved areas and supports increasing wireless backhaul demands throughout the state.

To date, FiberLight has connected over 600 cell towers, installed nearly 5,500 route miles across the state, connected a number of cities and towns to its network – including Victoria and Bryan this year – and added new data centers, including Fibertown in Bryan – which will be connected to FiberLight’s high speed DASH (Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston) network this month.  FiberLight also began the first phase of a planned 1,800-mile layer one high-speed transport circuit connecting Midland, Odessa, Abilene, San Angelo, Ozona, Forth Stockton, Monahans, Lubbock, Amarillo and Wichita Falls, which will be completed later this year.

FiberLight has overcome several obstacles to ensure timely construction and delivery for its customers, particularly with respect to permitting.  “We have worked very closely with local permitting bodies and railroads alike to ensure that we are able to meet the aggressive construction schedules that we have set for ourselves, while ensuring compliance with applicable legal requirements, including safety obligations,” said Paul Pierron, FiberLight’s CEO.  “Many of the cities and towns that we are working in are eager to benefit from the services that our network will bring to their communities.”

Another obstacle that FiberLight has tackled head-on has been competing for resources,  namely personnel and vendors, in a market saturated by the state’s energy boom.  “A number of oil, gas and other energy companies are looking for employees and contractors with similar experience and backgrounds as those we are looking for,” said Ron Kormos, FiberLight’s President of Texas Operations.  “Notwithstanding that competition, we have developed deep relationships with several quality contractors – including construction teams, locate companies and engineering firms – and have brought on a number of new, well-qualified employees in support of our work in Texas.”

For the remainder of 2014, FiberLight plans to complete 6,500 miles of its planned 8,000-mile expansion project, link up an additional 275 cell towers – for a total of 900, finish construction on its layer one high-speed transport circuit and connect Austin’s Data Foundry data center to FiberLight’s DASH network.  FiberLight is on track to meet and surpass each of these goals to improve cell service and bring much-needed fiber optic connectivity to rural communities across the state.
